About us

A bike co-op for our neighbors

Founded in 2008, Community Bikes is a not for profit organization that collects and reconditions donated bicycles and places them with children and adults who would love to have a bike, but for whom buying one would be a hardship.

Working in partnership with human service agencies, schools, churches and other organizations, Community Bikes has placed more than 6,000 bikes with low income families and individuals in Madison County.

Our In Tandem program uses tandem bikes to provide a shared bike riding experience for teens and adults with disabilities who may not otherwise be able to enjoy riding a bike.

Three ways to help

Donated bikes outside the Community Bikes bike drop

01

Donate a Bike

The bike sitting unused or unneeded in your garage can find a new home with a family in need in your own community. Simply drop off your bikes in good condition at one of our convenient drop off locations around Madison County.

02

Volunteer

You can help! Your community group, campus organization or as an individual can make an important contribution by volunteering at our bike workshop in Hamilton. Our In Tandem program needs tandem Captains (the rider in front) for weekly rides throughout the spring and summer. We’ll provide the training.
